Using my coaching background, I build strong relationships with my students. This is a key element for students who are struggling in school and may lack self esteem. They need a “coach” who not only helps them with any academic challenges, but also bolsters their confidence.

 

Reading Comprehension

With my extensive background in the teaching of reading, I am able to assist students in improving their comprehension in all subject content areas. Together, we develop tips and strategies to increase their understanding of the material.

 

Writing

The writing process can be overwhelming. I work with students in breaking down the process into more manageable steps. I utilize models and mentor texts because many students learn best by seeing examples. During revising and editing, we review sentence structure and grammar skills.

Study Skills

Oftentimes, students know the material when it is presented in class, but when it comes time to take the assessment, they do poorly. This especially applies to college students who think simply memorizing information will be enough to succeed on exams. However, this is not the case. Most professors want their students to apply the content learned.

 I teach students how to study and how to take notes. As a result, they are able to achieve higher scores on their tests, exams, and assessments.
